Earlier this year, award-winning science journalist Barbara Moran was the recipient of a Fund for Environmental Journalism grant for her proposal to produce articles examining the impact on environmental pollution and public health of industrial laundries in New England. Read her story, published November 19, 2012 on C-HIT, and distributed to Hartford Courant, New Haven Register, Middletown Press and Torrington-Register Citizen.

McKay Jenkins has been writing about people and the natural world for 25 years. He is the director of journalism at the University of Delaware, and the author of numerous books, including What’s Gotten into Us: Staying Healthy in a Toxic World, which chronicles his investigation into the myriad synthetic chemicals we encounter in our daily lives, and the growing body of evidence about the harm these chemicals do to our bodies and the environment.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' 12th Report on Carcinogens, released June 2011, includes 8 new substances: industrial chemical formaldehyde and a botanical known as aristolochic acids, as well as captafol, cobalt-tungsten carbide, certain inhalable glass wool fibers, o-nitrotoluene, riddelliine, and styrene.
